Types of Hydro Power Plant
Depending on Capacity, these plant are classified into
1. Micro Hydro Power Plant (Less than 100KW)
2.Mini Hydro Power Plant (100KW - 1MW)
3.Small Hydro Power Plant (1MW - 25MW)
4.Large Hydro Power Plant (Above 25MW)
Hydro Power Plant
In this process Potential energy convert into Electrical energy.
Potential Energy = mgh (m=mass; g=9.8; h=height or head )
Flow= dm/dt;
Hydraulic Power= Head x Flow x 9.8
Actual Hydraulic Power= Hydraulic Power x (1 - head loss)
here, head loss<1;
Mechanical power= A.H.P x Efficiency of Turbine
Electrical power= Mechanical power x Efficiency of Generator
Water Turbines are classified by Water Head
1. Wheel Turbine (.2<H<4)
2. Kaplan Turbine (2< H <40)
3.Francis Turbine (10 < H <350)
4.Pelton turbine (50< H <1300)
